Made a reservation here because I live in the neighborhood and haven't been to nearly enough of the restaurants in the area. My husband and I brought his parents along with our 1 year old to dinner and we all loved it. The food and ambiance were great but what really shined was the service. Both the waiter and bartender were extremely kind, the waiter (Mike maybe?) was funny, and they made sure that our 1 year old was well taken care of too! Not every restaurant goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable when you have a kid with you but they really did. 100% will be back here again.

The star of this restaurant is the staff, who are consistently friendly, warm people. The food is good, but with a very limited menu (which is why only 4 stars). Given the size of this place, I imagine they have a small kitchen. Ambiance is warm and cozy.

*4.5* Made reservations for a Saturday dinner with a friend a couple days before on OpenTable - bar seating was all full and I managed to snag one of the last 6:45 seating options. We had our work cut out for us finding parking smack dab in the middle of the Castro (in the rain no less), but were blessed with a spot right in front of the restaurant and made it to our rezzie with minutes to spare. I'll say it now: Lark easily has one of the most attractive restaurant interiors I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Lighting is sparse but tastefully chosen - small ceramic lamps that illuminate *just* enough of the table to see your menu and food, Edison-esque hanging lightbulbs for the bar, and wall lanterns create an air of timelessness and intimacy. With just 9 or so tables and the bar, we had no problems with excessive hustle and bustle, and our attentive server fielded our questions with ease. Food came out promptly, within 10 minutes of ordering. Boureki: forgive this comparison, but alternate universe crab rangoon (lol). Crispy fried filo dough filled with the creamiest feta and goat cheese served on a bed of arugula with a halved grape tomato. I've never been a fan of feta or goat cheese alone, but for some reason I loved the combination. I think it was also dusted with red pepper bits, which was a nice touch. Beyti: ground lamb and beef wrapped with a thin chewy dough, topped with tomato sauce and served with yogurt. The sauce was pretty thin and, although fresh, reminded me more of the leftover juice that sits in a bowl of pico. Solid flavor in the meat mixture but I personally found the slipperiness that the dough took on when sopping up the tomato sauce a little off-putting. Had a leftover one an hour later that had resolidified and it was pretty yummy. Kokkinisto Kotsi Arniou: this huge on-the-bone lamb shank had me feeling like a caveman in the best way. A fork and knife could not contain my animalistic fervor as I attacked what is now my unequivocally favorite preparation of lamb. The richly flavorful jus was so plentiful it almost made a stew with the feta chunks and lightly truffled (can I say that?) mashed potatoes. Surprisingly did not feel bloated or anything in the slightest after such an unctuous meal. Will be back to try drinks and with more people! Thank you!

Not only did I come away from this place full and happy - the wine pairing suggested with the moussaka was on-point! - but I also got to learn more about Fernet and a whiskey from the staff (major props to one guy in particular; his name escapes me but it started with a D and he was truly amazing, but so was everyone there). This was exactly the sort of spot I was looking for and I'm glad I got to visit. It's warm, cozy and inviting. I hope to visit again soon. In the meantime, I will be changing how I order Fernet moving forward

Cute little restaurant in Castro, service and food were amazing! This was not the restaurant we intended to visit, however it served the purpose for the night

Nice spot just off bright and bustling Castro St. Ambiance feels just a touch upscale to make this a great date spot with warm dim lighting and intimate seating. We came on a Friday ~9pm and the place was still full, so we sat at the last remaining seats at the bar. Food was delicious - on the pricier side though did not disappoint. Service was a little slow, seemed like they were running around with too few people. Good for a night that you may wanna splurge a lil!

I absolutely love this place, I have had probably everything on the menu and I promise the food is super delicious! One of my favorite spots in the Castro district. The staff are beyond amazing, super friendly and always there to help. This is a great spot to go for a date, or with friends and enjoy a great meal and a drink.

Small, dimly lit, intimate cocktail bar lounge in the Castro. Musakka was very tasty and pleasant. The mixed grill (miktos souvlakia) was perfect to sample all of the different meat skewers they offer. The arnaki brochettes (lamb) was the favorite. The others (chicken ground beef and lamb) were quite fine.

Lark burger had a moist beef-lamb patty and a balance of umami in cheese and caramelized onions. It was a little hard to eat in a ciabatta bun, but I just used a fork to eat the rest of it. The fries came out in a slightly smaller portion than we had hoped for the price of $10; overall the food is a bit on the higher priced end. We also thought for some of the meat dishes like the keftedes that the angus beef-lamb was a tad dry and difficult to eat without mixing in a sauce from someone else's dish like a tomato sauce. Service also wasn't particularly attentive but food came out in a reasonable time.
